Mathematics
Mathematics: Math is seen as another language. We could call the subject “numeracy” in keeping with “literacy”, which may more accurately reflect our understanding of the subject. Children need practice in mathematics in order to build confidence, and they often do best when the approach to the subject allows them to grow their sense of number over time. A “spiral curriculum”, one that keeps returning to certain basic concepts while at the same time pushing outward, meets the needs of most children. We work with math standards established by the National Council of Mathematics and draw our resources from the Miquon Math Program, Bridges Mathematics Curriculum, Math Their Way and Marilyn Burns material.

Guided Preparation for Middle School
Eileen Hynes, as Admissions Director, works with Middle School Admissions Directors and Administrators in building connections between Lake and Park and their respective secondary institutions.
Lake and Park students are well prepared for middle school. Families are guided and supported through the process of choosing the right school fit for a particular child.
Graduating students in past years have been accepted to: Billings, Bush, Explorer’s West, Lake Washington Girls Middle School, Lakeside School, Northwest School, Puget Sound Community School, St. George, St. Joseph, St. Terese, Seattle Academy of Arts and Science, Seattle Girls School, Seattle School for Boys, University Prep, and Westside School among other schools. Students have also enrolled in various Seattle Public School Middle Schools.
